Science Education Programs
IRFC's Science Education Programs provide an engaging, science-based learning experience that connects students with the natural world through live ambassador birds of prey. Led by Dr. Michele Losee, Raptor Ecologist and Master Falconer, each program uses raptors as a powerful teaching platform to explore ecology, animal adaptations, conservation, environmental science and the rich cultural heritage of falconry.
With a unique combination of scientific expertise and more than two decades of practical falconry experience, Dr. Losee bridges the gap between modern conservation science and one of humanity's oldest wildlife traditions. Students gain a deeper understanding of how falconry has contributed to our knowledge of raptor biology, behavior and conservation while discovering the vital role birds of prey play in healthy ecosystems.
Every program includes:
Live ambassador bird(s) of prey
A professionally presented, science-based educational program
Topics tailored to the audience, including:
Raptor biology and ecology
Adaptations and behavior
Predator-prey relationships and food webs
Conservation and environmental stewardship
The history, ethics and cultural significance of falconry
Interactive discussion that encourages observation, critical thinking and scientific curiosity
Student question-and-answer session
Opportunities to closely observe a live raptor in a safe, controlled environment
Programs can be customized for classrooms, school assemblies, libraries, museums, community organizations and special events. Whether presented to a small class or a large audience, every program is designed to inspire curiosity, promote scientific and environmental literacy as well as foster a greater appreciation for raptors, conservation and the centuries-old partnership between humans and raptors through the cultural practice of falconry.
